So, second semester actually started on my birthday of all days. I was a tad bit upset about that. I mean who wants the first day of classes to also be your birthday. Although I did not have any homework due the next day, so that was good. My birthday was fabulous in the end. I was saddened that I had to wake up for class at 9:35, but when I woke up my roommate had placed balloons around my bed and wrapped my door with "Happy Birthday" wrapping paper. She also bought me a princess crown to wear around that day (which I did happily -- except during class when I took it off). Then later that day I found out that one of my best friends was not going to stay this semester and she only came back to get her things. It definitely put a damper on things. Then two of my friends took me out to eat hibachi at Tokyo. One of my favorite restaurants in Conyers. The weird thing was that they kinda rushed the meal and I didn't even get a cake or ice cream. I was a bit upset about that, but I was too full to complain. We got back in the car and headed back to Oxford. On the way, my friend called her mother and instead of hearing a female voice I heard a really deep male voice -- she told me her mother had a head cold. I was about to go back to my room and just watch a movie when my friends were like how about we go visit some of the guys and see how they decorated their room this semester (another friend of mine decided he was going to build some shelves for his new television). On the way there, in one of the community lounges, was a surprise party waiting for me. I had no idea. I started crying because I was so happy. I never had a surprise party before. Apparently my mother e-mailed a friend and asked if he would put it together for me. She even sent him a check so that he could buy my favorite cake (Carvel ice cream cake) and decorations.
Well, then the next weekend I was on retreat for Freshman Council. It was so much fun. We all just hung out in Wynder, GA in this BEAUTIFUL house on this lovely property. We cooked our own food and played games all day.
Then school really started and I have had so much work since. I feel absolutely overwhelmed. I mean the semester only started two weeks ago! How could I have this much work already?!?! And to top it off, I also had to move yesterday. I only moved upstairs, but still I had to move all my things. I'm much happier now that I'm settled in my new room. And for all those who are worried about not getting along with your roommate, it's okay, you can always have a roommate switch. You never have to be stuck in an unhappy situation. I also recommend not rooming with a good friend of yours. Living with someone is way different than just hanging out.
Tonight at the Old Church was the Celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King's Legacy. It was so moving. There was the Oxford College Voices of Praise and the Interdenominational Choir along with a student performance by Rachel Laney, speaches by Suleman Malik (SGA President), Breanna McDaniel (BSA President), Lynn Hargrow (awesome person) and Reverend Harold Cobb. The music was amazing. I just enjoyed the whole thing.
Well, I must go and get some sleep. I have a full day tomorrow.
Oh, I got an A on that research paper for English last semester I was so worried about. ;)
Peace and love,
Liz
